A New Police Story by Jackie Chan - Searchbabe Movie Reviews
This long awaited action feature has, predictably, had a great opening weekend at screens around Asia.
Action star par excellence Jackie Chan has proven himself time and again with superbly entertaining
action-comedy classics.
His move to Hollywood has undoubtly given him a wider audience, but has blunted his personal
impact on his movies, where he was downgraded from actor-producer to just actor, and in so doing,
compromised much of his action creativity that was evident in his earlier films.
A New Police story, produced and set in Hong Kong, while offering great spinethrilling action sequences,
also has emotional scenes that show why Jackie should stay in the action-comedy arena and refrain
from doing an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice - his emotional acting is stunted, to say the least.
The plot is predictable, with Jackie reprising his role of a Hong Kong caught in a
sadistic web of crime masterminded by the errant Daniel Wu and his young sidekicks.
With the death of his closest colleagues, Jackie spins into a downward spiral of depression and
drink.
Only the introduction of an eager new partner spurs him to recover and take the gang on again,
finally overpowering them in an epic showdown at Hong Kong's landmark Convention Center.
Definitely a must-watch for all action fans who love good ol' action comedy without newfangled CGI
taking the fun out of it.
